چکیده

granular media of CoCrPtTa structure (type a) and micromagnetic standard problem #4 has been done. Moreover, an investigation of the effect of the maximum dimension of the Krylov subspace projection methods, within the Ordinary Differential Equations (ODEs) context, on the speed of micromagnetic simulations on granular media of Co structure (type b) has been done. The stiffness of the problems has been investigated using two different solvers, a non-stiff (Adams) and a stiff one (backward differentiation formulae, BDF) for the solution of the large system of ODEs. The results show that granular media (type a) micromagnetic simulations are stiff, whereas µ MAG standard problem #4 is not. Furthermore, it has been found that increasing the maximum dimension of the Krylov subspace to 20 (default value =5) a considerable increase to the speed of the granular media simulations occurs in the order of approximately 90%.

Comparison of two integration schemes for a micropolar plasticity model

Micropolar plasticity provides the capability to carry out post-failure simulations of geo-structures due to microstructural considerations and embedded length scale in its formulation. An essential part of the numerical implementation of a micropolar plasticity model is the integration of the rate constitutive equations. Efficiency and robustness of the implementation hinge on the type of int...

A Study of the Wave Propagation Velocity in Granular Soils Using Discrete Element Method (DEM)

In the present paper, discrete element method (DEM) is used to study wave propagation phenomenon in granular soils. The effect of factors such as coefficient of friction, frequency, normal stiffness and soil gradation on the wave velocity is studied. Using the wall motion based on the sinusoidal function is the method of loading used in this simulation, through which the pressure wave is transf...

FastMag Micromagnetic Framework: Current State and Roadmap

Micromagnetic solvers have a significant predictive power and are important for our ability to analyze and design magnetic devices and systems. However, micromagnetic analysis of complex and large-scale devices may be very time consuming or impossible. The computational complexity is due to the geometrical and material complexity of many structures, a large number of required discretization ele...

Batch Study on COD and Ammonia Nitrogen Removal Using Granular Activated Carbon and Cockle Shells

Landfills generate leachate that contains elevated concentration of contaminants and is hazardous to human health and the ecosystem. In this study, the mixture of granular activated carbon and cockle shells was investigated for remediation of COD and ammonia from stabilized landfill leachate. All adsorbent media were sieved to a particle size between 2.00 and 3.35 mm. The optimum mixing ratio, ...

Multilaminate Elastoplastic Model for Granular Media

A multilaminate based model capable of predicting the behavior of granular material on the basis of sliding mechanisms and elastic behavior of particles is presented. The capability of the model to predict the behavior of sand under arbitrary stress paths is examined. The influences of rotation of the direction of principal stress axes and induced anisotropy are included in a rational way witho...
